For near 50 years, Ellen Cheever brought a dynamic combination of design excellence and personal rapport to her business and residential clients.


A Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer, Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers, and a Certified Living in Place Professional, Cheever ran a residential design practice affiliated with Giorgi Kitchens & Designs based in Wilmington, Delaware. Her design work has been honored by the American Society of Interior Designers, The Sub-Zero Design competition, the KWC Design Competition and the National Kitchen & Bath Association. 
She was the president of her consulting firm, which specialized in creating highly effective training programs for all segments of the Kitchen & Bath industry. Her programs were delivered as CEU approved on-line webinars and in-person presentations.

She was a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association Hall of Fame and served on management teams for several innovative and respected cabinet companies.

A prolific author, she first gained prominence in the industry when she wrote two textbooks considered the basis of design education: Beyond the Basics: Advanced Kitchen Design and The Basics of Bathroom Design and Beyond. She then served as the Director of Educational Services for the National Kitchen & Bath Association, where under her leadership the Kitchen and Bathroom Industry Technical Manuals were first published.

She continued her focus on educational leadership throughout her career. She authored and updated four of the authoritative volumes for NKBA’s Professional Research Library: Kitchen & Bath Products, Design Principles, Kitchen & Bath Business Management and Kitchen & Bath Project Management. Additionally, she was a regular contributor to Kitchen & Bath Design News Magazine for 16 years.

In 2017 Cheever was recognized by Kitchen & Bath Design News Magazine as one of the top 50 business innovators in the kitchen and bath industry. Also in 2017, she was Delaware Today Magazine’s Women in Business Honoree, voted one of the Top Business Women in her home state of Delaware.


In 2018, Virginia Tech, the first NKBA Affiliated College created, The Cheever Design Library, in the colleges' Center for Real Life Design. The library houses her professional papers, books and programs created over her 48 year career. In 2019 NKBA named a new student program after her: The Ellen Cheever Student Certificate Scholarship.
